Visual arts at the Briggait

Wasps commissioned Post Creative to design and build a site that would offer information about the project, showcase the latest designs and explain the history of the Briggait building. We worked in collaboration with Glasgow based developer Paul Hart to produce the site.

The Briggait, in Glasgow’s Merchant City, houses Scotland’s oldest collection of surviving market halls. It served as the city’s fish market for over 100 years, was reincarnated briefly as a shopping centre during the1980s, but then lay empty and neglected for almost 20 years. In 2001 arts charity ‘Wasps Artists’ Studios’ set out to transform the much loved building into a new creative space for Glasgow, housing up to 100 visual artists and arts organisations.

We developed the site in Wordpress as Wasps wanted to be able to easily update their site in-house. They provided us with a wealth of recent and historic images of the Briggait, as well as great shots of artists at work. Our brief was to provide a design that accentuated these fantastic images, whilst also showcasing up-to-the-minute social media content from sites such as Flickr and Youtube.

With the first stage of redevelopment complete and further work planned, the site will provide a valuable resource to record and inform artists and the public alike on the progress of this exciting project.
